Building neighbourhoods through feminist urbanism

Women have always participated in social and neighbourhood movements in our neighbourhoods, cities, and territories. We have carried out countless invisible tasks and have also led demonstrations and actions to demand facilities, public spaces, public transport, access to housing, and the eradication of gender-based violence, among many other struggles.

We have been—and continue to be—protagonists in the construction of our living environments. This is why it is necessary to document, analyse, and systematise these experiences, in order to ensure the transformation we seek in our society so that all lives are worth living.

This booklet aims to be a tool for collecting women’s experiences within the project “Purple Neighbourhoods” being developed in the city of Lleida. This tool is based on the experience of qualitative and participatory methods developed through feminist urbanism to analyse the spaces where we live.

This initiative arises from the need to enrich the contributions made by women within the “Purple Neighbourhoods” project and to facilitate dialogue between participating women and the technical and political staff of the Public Administration. It forms part of the actions included in the “Local Pact against Gender-Based Violence in the Municipality of Lleida” 2024.
