Col·lectiu Punt 6 and CooperAcció present the results of their food sovereignty project in feminist territories

In this project, work has been done to deepen the connection between territory and the right to food from a feminist perspective. Three participatory diagnoses have been carried out on the role of women and dissident identities in defending the right to food from an ecofeminist perspective in three territories of Catalonia: Tarragona, Lleida, and Barcelona. The objective has been to make visible how this right is carried out in the Catalan territory and what the fundamental role of women and dissident identities is in its exercise, with an approach that places care at the center of the food chain and promotes collective proposals for an ecofeminist food sovereignty model.

During the meeting that took place at La Raposa de PobleSec, the results of the Barcelona and Lleida territories were presented, in an event where the diagnosis was shared, including a mapping of experiences, networking with people, initiatives, and feminist entities from the territory. The need to resolve care collectively was also highlighted, as well as the construction of an internationalist, feminist narrative defending the rights that support life, with a vision of guaranteeing and protecting human rights. The session also discussed the challenges that still persist in accessing food, as well as the violations that occur around this right in different contexts of care, social, economic, political, and geographical contexts, from a gender and intersectional perspective.

The active participation of entities from the territory has allowed for the creation of a space for reflection, advocacy, and mobilization, with the goal of building, from the defense of the right to food, a proposal that supports feminist food sovereignty, placing care at the center of all processes in the food chain, with a global justice perspective.

This project is part of the initiative “Experiences of feminist empowerment of women and dissident identities in defense of the rights, knowledge, and collective sovereignties that support life, from a North-South perspective,” and has been developed jointly by CooperAcció and Col·lectiu Punt 6, with the support of the 2022 Catalan Cooperation Agency grants, within the education for development project line.
